Escape the cold and reboot your wellbeing at the ultimate luxury wellness retreat

As soon as I arrived at Helios Retreats I instantly felt zen.  Nestled in the hills of Mykonos this place has the kind of vibe you want to bottle and sell.

I was kindly invited to spend the week here and run my wellbeing workshops by owner Hugo Martini Mensch.   Helios has tapped into something special when it comes to retreats, there’s so many out there but what sets it apart from the rest is their slick team of coordinators and trainers that map out a balance of healthy eating, fitness, wellbeing and rest.

Martini Mensch created Helios to combine wellness and travel.  He has curated the whole thing to include some of the world’s top trainers set in the best locations (as well as Mykonos he runs retreats in Morocco and the Bahamas with plans to expand into Bali, Mexico and Sri Lanka).

This week I was put through my paces by international celebrity fitness guru, Camilla Akerberg and health and fitness expert Matt James, who trains top global athletes who include tennis player Nick Kyrgios.  The energy level at Helios is high but you are encouraged to work at your own pace while at the same time the trainers spend one on one time with you to make sure you are meeting your goals and improving.

There’s plenty of time to relax but my typical day kicked off with a brisk mountain hike to clear the cobwebs.  During the day we had the option to join in the training sessions and unwind with sunset yoga, taught by Ayurveda expert Amanda Noga.   If after a day working out you need to soothe tired muscles I highly recommend booking one of the massages while you are there.

What really surprised me was the food.  I was expecting to be short changed on the portion sizes and imagined meals would be restricted.  Instead we were served nutritious, healthy and tasty, fresh local dishes to fuel our workouts.

You can feel Martini Mensch’s energy and passion around the place, he is there to meet the guests when they arrive, instantly makes you feel at home and relaxed and he also gets stuck in.  He’s up for the early morning hikes, joins in the classes and takes the time to get to know each of his guests.

The guests had flown in from Australia, Dubai, America and the UK to spend the week here, all looking to escape the daily grind and experience a healthy break.  The relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to bond with each other and by day two I felt like I was on a break with friends.

Being close to nature and in the warm sunshine meant it was a great setting to deliver my Reset, Recharge and Reprogram workshops, the sessions focus on themes including positive mindset, emotional resilience and stress management, with guests being taught a number of practical tools  they can practise and use back home.

At the start of the week I set the intention to learn new things and make new friends, I am heading home ticking both of those boxes.
